About
Deprem Haritası shows the latest earthquakes in Türkiye and around the world, plainly, shortly after the agencies publish them. It is for information only; for official statements see AFAD and Kandilli. It does not predict earthquakes and does not issue warnings.
Data sources
- AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Authority of Türkiye): Türkiye and its surroundings. Used with attribution, for non-commercial purposes.
- Kandilli Observatory: Boğaziçi Üniversitesi Kandilli Rasathanesi ve Deprem Araştırma Enstitüsü Bölgesel Deprem-Tsunami İzleme ve Değerlendirme Merkezi. Used with attribution, for non-commercial purposes.
- EMSC (Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre): Europe, the Mediterranean and worldwide. Used under EMSC’s terms of use.
- USGS (U.S. Geological Survey): worldwide. Public domain.
How it works
We read the earthquake lists the agencies publish at short intervals. When several agencies report the same quake, we merge them into one record: solutions within 60 seconds, 50 km (100 km for magnitude 6 and above) and 1.0 magnitude units of each other count as the same quake. The headline shows the first available solution from AFAD, Kandilli, EMSC and USGS, in that order, in Türkiye and its surroundings, and from USGS, EMSC, AFAD and Kandilli elsewhere. Every agency’s solution is listed on the quake’s page.
When an agency revises or withdraws a quake, its page changes too. Times are Türkiye time (UTC+3); quake pages also give UTC. Place names come from district and province boundaries, from the nearest coast at sea, and from the nearest town abroad.
